Sex in the media's effect on youth

My opinion is not popular. What else is new!

Yes, I believe there is way too much sex in the media. HOWEVER I do not believe that this is causing America's youth to be more sexual. Parents need to monitor what their children are watching. Shows like Gossip Girl, while marketed towards mid-late teens is really not appropriate for anyone under 18. Parents need to monitor what their children are wearing. Don't want your daughter to dress like a skank? Don't buy her those clothes. If she buys it with her own money, get rid of it when it comes through the laundry. If she manages to take the perfectly decent clothes you bought her and roll or tie or whatever them to make them look skanky, then that's on her. If your child sneaks and watches stuff behind your back, that's on them.

People need to stop blaming the media. Think back... In the 50's shows didn't show sex. Shoot parents slept in separate beds on the shows back then! Yet teens were out having sex. It's not a media thing. It's an individual thing. Kids will either have sex or not based on their own beliefs. Nothing and no one can make someone consent to sex if they don't want to consent. No one can make someone wear something slutty if they don't want to dress slutty.

Now, I'm not saying that if a parent does everything right their child won't have sex or dress slutty anyway. However, I'd bet that the person doing those things isn't going to say "Because the media told me to" No! It'll be "these clothes are cute" or "makes me feel good to dress like this" or whatever...

It's a PERSONAL DECISION. Even if there was no sex on tv, in magazines, etc.... it is my firm belief that there would still be kids out there doing whatever they want. God gave us urges. Some fight them better than others before marriage. Let's stop blaming everyone and take ownership of our own actions.
