My children are lucky!

So I haven't wrote here in a long time because I have been busy in school and with life. However this week I finally have something worth writing about here.

My kids are super lucky!!!

Yes, I'm sure all parents thing that but I mean in more than the normal ways. You see, my children have one Socialist parent and one Conservative parent. My children are growing up being exposed to both extremes of the political spectrum. We don't try to influence how they think, politically. We don't tell them that Republicans hate gays, or Muslims, or the Spaghetti Monster. We don't tell them that Democrats hate Christians, or gun owners, or homeschooling families.

Sadly, this week I have seen multiple Facebook friends talk about how upset their young children were due to Donald Trump winning the election. These are children who are not even double digit ages yet. There is no way that these children are old enough, mature enough, to have developed their own opinion free of the influences of their parents.

There comes an age when children are old enough and mature enough to understand politics however that's not prior to teenage years. Even then I don't think younger teenagers fully understand either. My children are 9 and 13 (almost 14) and I don't feel either of them are able to do more than ask questions. When they ask questions, we give unbiased answers. I listen to talk radio shows like Herman Cain, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity. I listen to these with kids in the car or not. Likewise my husband listens to NPR radio, also whether or not the kids are with him. My husband also gets newspapers from all over the country (thanks to my daddy's business trips) and the kids have access to them as well.

My children are lucky that they have parents who would rather they learn to think for themselves than think exactly the same things that we think for exactly the same reason. That borders on brainwashing.
