I really wanted to start this post off with a clip from Veggietales' Jonah movie where Kahlil the caterpillar told Jonah that he "is a caterpillar, but that is only half true; his mother was a caterpillar and his father was a worm, but he is okay with that now." Sadly I couldn't find a clip of it (and i'm too lazy to dig out my movie and make my own) so you'll have to just watch the movie yourself.
I wanted to start this with that clip cause that's kinda how I expect our children to talk about Hubby and I when they get older and talk politics. "My mother is a conservative and my father is a socialist but I'm okay with that now."
A lot of people who know Hubby and I already know this about us. They know that he and I find great amusement in teasing each other about our political beliefs. But I really truly don't mind that he's a Socialist. The reason is simple, he believes that's what the Bible teaches.
Lots of places in the Bible, it talks about taking care of the widows and orphans. The early Christians pooled all their resources together and were to keep nothing for themselves.
In Acts 4:32-37 it talks about how "all the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions was his own, but they shared everything they had." It goes on to say that there was no needy among them, that they all took care of each other, and that if someone sold land or something they didn't keep the money but that they would give it to the apostles "and it was distributed to anyone as he had need."
In Acts 5:1-10 it is told of Ananias & Sapphira who were husband and wife. Ananias sold land and, with Sapphira's knowledge, kept a portion of the money from the sale for themselves. They were both put to death for lying about how much they received.
Hubby points to scripture such as this to support his belief that it's the Christian thing to do to believe politically as he does. Now, I obviously don't agree with him on this. However, since his belief is founded by his studying of the Bible and he's doing what he feels God has called him to do, I can't fault him his political beliefs.
