Balancing being a Christian and a Liberal is easy. Both find their base in celebration of human choice; being allowed to choose to live in a way that you decide is best. God left Adam the choice to obey and live with Him in Eden, he also put the Tree of Knowledge there to allow him free will to choose whether to stay or not. Jesus constantly showed people through his parables the way to come to God, but he left the choice to do so up to them; some walked away, not willing to make the necessary changes or decisions, others chose to do what was necessary. This is why I support the freedom of choice for abortion, for homosexual couples to have legal rights, among other things. By saying pro-choice, i'm not saying i'm pro-abortion. I don't particularly care for it, i think its savage and wasteful and disgusting, but for me to take away the choice of the mother to handle the pregnancy in the way she sees fit is unchristian-like. Now i do feel that more should be done, and this is where Christians/churches and the like can step up and offer the mother as much as they can to save the child's life. up to and including a home for it. But for Christians to stand outside the abortion clinic or in legislature and degrade the woman for making that choice, for taking away the choice (or attempting to) without offering help relief or alternative, is the opposite of how God treats us. Free will is the greatest gift He gave us. who are we to take it away from someone else? Same with Homosexual couples. American citizens, and not second rate people. We have been through this with african-americans for 5 hundred years. there are no second class people. God has stated in the old testament that it is abhorrent to Him. But He gave us free will. It is how some of us live. The bible says to love. Christ said the greatest commandment was to love. I've stated this before, the government should not issue marriage licences. Marriage is a religious institution and therefor exempt from Government legislation, per the constitution. We should all get civil union certificates, and if you can find a church to Marry you, then more power to you, it's between you and God. there is no reason a segment of our population should not have equal rights and responsibilities. This is not a pro-gay statement, this is an equal rights statement. We should love each other as brothers and sisters, whether we agree or not. We should love each other as Christ would love. We should love each other as Americans. We should love each other as Humans. Give each other the choice to make our own mistakes and triumphs. Give each other Help and Love and the ability and opportunity to Choose.
That is how i balance being a Liberal and a Christian.
I find I agree with his reasoning. I just highly disagree with the implementation of it. He's so right. God gives us free will. However, the liberals do NOT give us free will on where our money will go. They may have good intentions for helping people, but you should not legislate charity. It's supposed to be of our FREE WILL.
Anyway, I thought I'd do a follow up with his own words since he posted it.
Have a great day!
